TETHERING TIPS
One is none.
Always power off your camera when swapping batteries or changing lenses.
Avoid placing your camera on the tethering side to protect the port and cable from stress or bending.
Use a high-quality tether lock to keep your cable securely connected and avoid accidental disconnections.
Regularly check your camera’s firmware to ensure it’s running the latest update for smooth tethering.
Double-check camera compatibility with your capture software—some setups need specific firmware or aren’t supported for tethering at all
CABLE CARE
Tether cables shouldn't be considered expendables. Treat them right and they’ll serve you well shoot after shoot.
Coil smart: Store cables in 10–12” coils with a velcro tie to prevent tangles and internal stress.
Follow the cable’s memory when coiling—don’t force it, just guide it. Gently work out any kinks.
For stubborn coils, lay the cable out in the sun for 5–10 minutes, then gently reshape and recoil. A little sunshine goes a long way!
Keep cables dry—no pool parties for your tether.
Avoid rolling over cables with carts, monitor stands, dolly wheels, skateboards, and other items on set.
Always use common sense. If the cable doesn’t support power delivery, enabling charging may not work. If it’s pinched in a case, it’s likely damaged. These cables aren’t indestructible. If something feels like a bad idea, it probably is.
SUPPORT FAQS
WHY IS MY CABLE RUNNING SO SLOW?
Bent pins or kinked cables can cause a drop in USB speeds severely limiting transfer rates. Check your cable for damage. We also recommend avoiding hubs to eliminate any variables in connections and limitations on speed.
MY CAMERA ISN’T SHOWING UP IN CAPTURE ONE. WHAT SHOULD I CHECK?
Make sure your camera model is supported on Capture One’s Supported Cameras List. Double check your camera’s firmware and Capture One to make sure you are running the latest versions. Check your camera settings to confirm USB tethering is enabled. Restart both camera and software. Sometimes Capture One requires a fresh handshake after a disconnect.
WHY IS MY CONNECTION DROPPING?
Check your cable for any damage. Use a high quality tether lock to secure your cable from any movement. Check your camera and computer sleep settings and battery power.
WHY ISN’T MY CABLE CHARGING MY CAMERA?
Please check the cable specs on the product page to confirm the cable supports power delivery.
DO YOU HAVE A QUICK TROUBLESHOOTING CHECKLIST?
Confirm camera compatibility on the Capture One site
Update camera firmware and Capture One version
Restart both camera and computer
Remove memory card (Capture One prefers direct-to-disk)
Ensure USB mode is set to Tethered or PC Control
Avoid USB hubs or splitters
Use a fully charged battery or power adapter
Inspect cable for damage or looseness
Check camera doesn’t auto-power off
If all else fails, test with a different computer and cable
